South Carolina Fire Academy

Protect. Prevent. Train. Respond.

Reciprocity Process

The SC Fire Academy offers evaluation of previous certifications and training from other accredited state or training entities. It is the policy of the South Carolina Fire Academy to offer reciprocity for occupational level IFSAC and/or Pro Board certifications issued by proper agencies. Applicants with valid out-of-state IFSAC and/or Pro Board certifications for corresponding South Carolina Fire Academy Accredited courses and apply for reciprocity will be granted credit on the applicant's SCFA training transcript. Individuals without IFSAC and/or Pro Board certifications will be required to seek IFSAC and/or Pro Board from the accredited state or training entity where the applicant completed their initial training and apply under reciprocity or successfully complete the SCFA training course to be added to the individual's SCFA training transcript.

According to SC Code Ann. §40-80-10, your position of employment or placement within a fire department is determined by your Fire Chief, and the SC Fire Academy has no authority or input regarding your position of employment.

To apply for credit, complete the Application for Reciprocity. The application must be signed by your fire chief or designee.

Please submit the signed application and copies of your certifications (or transcripts) to: SCFA Accreditation & Certification, 141 Monticello Trail, Columbia, SC 29203 or email SCFA.Reciprocity@llr.sc.gov.
